As students of the University of Kentucky's CIS 112 class, we will be participating in a service learning experience. This semester, we will be working with Girls on the Run Central Kentucky at Seton Catholic School. We serve as "Running Buddies" to the girls and will be helping them achieve their goals and live a healthy lifestyle. At the end of the season, they will be prepared to demonstrate their success and complete the GOTR 5K with us by their side. We are here to share our experience.

Wow! This looks like so much fun and seems like y'all are really making a positive impact in these girls' lives! Is there ever any resistance from the girls to participate during the activities? What's the biggest challenge you've run in to since volunteering?
ReplyDeleteBelieve it or not, there are very few problems we run into at GOTR. The girls are always so excited to be there and willing to participate in the activities. However, there is one problem we run into. There are sometimes a few girls that are a extremely hyper and have trouble focusing during the lesson. Even so the teachers are very good at helping the girls stay focused and containing the energy. Another problem we sometimes run into is the girls not wanting to run. This is an easy problem to solve because usually with a little bit of encouragement, the girls are willing to push themselves to run. Overall the girls are very well behaved and willing to participate in activities!
